GPS Log App Reviews

One of my best GPS apps

Best to memorize places. Use it every time when Im not tracking.

Did not work as described

I bought this before going on safari in Africa so I could tag locations where I would not have any data service, however I was unable to get it to tag ANY location whatsoever. Highly disappointing, as I was going to use the data to help me tag photos from my digital SLR. Back in the states it seems to function as soon as I turn it on, but in Africa it did nothing, even when I was on a mobile network. The whole reason why I spent $10 was because it was described to work with no data connection. I find it hard to believe that throughout all the wide open plains of the Serengeti that I would be unable to pick up a GPS signal, thus the 1 star rating...

Warning....

I discovered too late that this app scales down the photos you take with it to a tiny size. If it werent for that, I would have given it 5 stars.

Very impressive application

Great idea to have manual tagging - allows you to record your journey without running out of battery all the time. Perfect for international travel as a data plan is unnecessary (and the associated huge costs!). Overall, a very good application, with an excellent, devoted developer. Just look at the support site linked to see how well supported this application is.

Fantastic tool as is, or to build into a larger web system

With the 1.3 release, GPS Log now has the ability to send a KMZ file of your visits to your email address, or upload KML files and thumbnails of your images to a script running on your server. This means its become a fantastic trip blogging tool, you can easily get a file that you can view in Google Earth or view laid out in Google Maps on your own site, uploaded from wherever you can get coverage. And not have to have network coverage while youre gathering data, or worry about the battery life issues of a full-time tracker. Ill be using it to put trip reports of hikes, bike rides, and road trips on my weblog. However, I think the applications for this go far beyond just a richer blogging experience; this tool should get integrated into maintenance systems, security routines, and other places where people need rich interfaces to providing location information. Any situation where people need to keep track of what they were doing when. Other than that, it does exactly what it says: Lets you tap the screen and log information about a visit to a location, with pictures and notes, so it lets you keep track of where youve been and what youve done without needing to be running all the time (good for battery life), and doesnt require that you be connected to a network while youre doing so (good for remote areas or foreign travel where the roaming fees would otherwise kill you).

Overpriced but good

Great app but way overpriced. Only good if you need to see all saved locations basically showing your days path. Before you buy take a look at an app called "My Spots". It does the same thing minus the Google Earth exports. My Spots still exports to Google Maps however and has a much faster and eye pleasing interface. You can also upload your favorite spots to Facebook or send your locations to people in your contacts an its only $0.99

Exactly what I needed

I use this app to catalog surface textures around the city. When Im out with the big camera I can easily track down previously geotagged examples. Nice job!

Superb app!!!

One of the must have apps in iphone!! Dont think go ahead and buy it!! Very smartly designed and programmed!

Its a start

Its worth 99 cents

Excellent app!!!

I have been using this app since it was very First released. The author has listened To everyones suggestions, and this app has really grown and matured! The absolutely best way To geotag and save notes, photos and so much more For locations.

Great !!!!!!!! Best of all.

Works great first time. This is the only app of it kind that I have found that really works. I use iPhone 3Gs ios4 and the app is just what I wanted. Outstanding App.

Wonderful tool!

How have I never reviewed this app? Weve been using GPSL almost since it was first released, and have come to rely on it for more uses than I would have imagined. We began by "spiking" locations we hiked: getting GPS locations and photos of trailheads and facilities, along with hours and impressions. Quickly that evolved to spiking restaurants and coffee shops, including hours and photos of menus and receipts, to give us a complete snapshot of a meal experience. Photos can be saved at a variety of resolutions (including full-size, its a user setting so dont worry about the bad review!) The developer has been incredibly responsive to requests and has greatly expanded the capabilities of his application. Each new release has enhanced our use of GPSL. We recently returned to the US from a trip to Canada, where we successfully spiked without data for the first time, and with no problem. The initial fix will take a while (if youve moved thousands of miles, as we did) but after that each successive spike found a GPS lock in less than 30 seconds. We now have some of our favorite locations in the Canadian Rockies spiked without using a second of cellular data, and while miles from anywhere along a hiking trail. Seeing all of your spikes on a map, being able to export and share your spikes with friends are all features of this application. The upcoming release, 3.0, will also greatly expand the capabilities yet again. This has been a lot of fun to grow with, as the apps new features keep adding to our use of the program. Visit the support website, and look at the forum to see how many of the users utilize GPS Log. The varied use-cases are limited only by peoples imagination. Its a blast!

Worth it

This is the most Ive spent on an app, but the only one I feel strong enough to write a review for. Worth the money if you have a use for it. Powerful little app.

email export only

IMPORTANT FEATURE REQUEST: I would like to see KMZ/KML data exports via iTunes or by the included FTP server advanced setting option, meaning it is inconvenient for me to have to rely on 3rd party mail servers -- its your mail server in this case, and BTW I mean no offense -- to give me my data. Other than this issue, this app has a nice, intuitive interface and its very easy to use. I tested a KMZ emailed to me in Google Earth (the desktop app) -- it works as advertised.

Excellent

Very useful for finds grouping/clustering

Great app. Wish list

Share my data easily between iPhone and same app running on ipad App upstairs to universal app for both iPhone and iPad Camera to support iPhone 4 camera features such as tap to focus, flash toggle,HDR etc etc Ability to upload to google maps as a custom map with gps points tags and photos etc Other than the above, its an awesome app

Better than a journal

I use it to see how often I visit a place and of course have the extra abilities to add photos, maps, and notes.

Sync Problems

GPSLog on my iPad2 wont sync under ios5.0.1. I have reported the issuento support twice with no response..too bad, syncing between devices is a big feature for me..

Works nice

When you add visit it logs another entry. Otherwise does what it says it will do.

Perfect app

Really the App is useful to my job as outdoor media
